World Screen: SVOD Emerges as Consumers’ “Starting Gate”
More U.S. audiences start their viewing sessions on SVOD than on any other platform, according to Hub’s latest Decoding the Default report.
Per the study, 40 percent of US consumers begin a viewing journey on SVOD, up from 36 percent five years ago, while live TV has dropped from 43 percent to 32 percent. Free with ads, including YouTube, is the starting point for 17 percent of consumers.
A greater proportion of younger viewers start a viewing journey on SVOD, with 56 percent defaulting to a paid streaming service and another 22 percent starting on a free streaming platform; only 15 percent choose live TV.

Marketing Dive: IAB Lowers 2025 Ad Forecast Amid Tariff Turbulence
Social, CTV will still see double digit growth but linear TV will decline by 14% this year.
The newly released IAB’s “2025 Outlook Study September Update: A Snapshot of the Latest Ad Spend Trends, Opportunities, and Strategies for Growth” found that ad buyers expect to spend less in the second half of the year than originally projected, leading IAB to lower its 2025 U.S. ad spend projection 1.6 percentage points from 7.3% growth to 5.7% growth.

TVTechnology: IBC2025 Attracts 43,858 Visitors, from More Than 170 countries
The organizers of IBC2025 are reporting that 43,858 visitors from more than 170 countries attended the event, which had more than 1,300 exhibitors and offered sessions, panels and workshops with more than 600 speakers between Sept. 12 and 15.
“IBC2025 has delivered real business outcomes with overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees,” said Michael Crimp, CEO of IBC. “What struck me most was the sense of optimism and purpose — exhibitors, visitors, speakers, and partners all came here to shape the future of our industry. We look forward to continuing the journey together next year.”
